EQUALITY COMMISION FOR NI ADVISORY SERVICE FOR TRANS PEOPLE
The Equality Commission champions equality for all. We want to help people who believe that they have been treated unfairly.
It is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of a person’s transgender status in employment and in the provision of goods, facilities and services and the disposal or management of premises. You can find out more about the law here.
If you are concerned that you have been treated unfairly because you are transgender then please contact the Commission to talk about your concerns. Our service is totally confidential and free of charge. You are not under any obligation to take legal action once you have spoken to us.
Sometimes people want to take a legal case because they feel that they have suffered unlawful discrimination. The Commission can offer legal assistance to you if you want to take a case. You can apply for legal assistance from the Commission and we will consider your application very carefully and let you know if we are supporting you. We consider each application in accordance with our Policy for the Provision of Legal Advice and Assistance which you can find on our website.
We very much welcome the opportunity to listen to your concerns and offer our guidance and support. Please remember that there are legal time limits for bringing cases and so it is best that you contact us as soon you are concerned that you have suffered unlawful discrimination.
