Following a recent intervention by Focus: The Identity Trust in regard to the on-going administration of HRT Maeve Mc Laughlin Chair of the Health Committee asked the following question.
Q: To ask the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety how he intends to put in place the procedures and safeguards that will enable GPs to prescribe Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to people going through the gender reassignment process.
A: The HSCB has been examining this issue and is in the process of developing shared care guidelines for monitoring patients who require Hormone Replacement Therapy. The clinical guidelines will describe what monitoring is required, the responsibilities of the Gender Specialist, the endocrinology service and the Primary Care Physician.
Focus: The Identity Trust is now examining the response and developing plans to ensure that transgender individuals get the properly commissioned service in place for this life saving therapy.
